• Development of Poly-herbal Formulation with Synbiotics for the Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis

  Problem

  1. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common inflammatory arthritis, affecting 1% of the global population and an Indian prevalence of around 0.75%. It is a chronic, relapsing-remitting disease which, if undertreated, leads to permanent joint damage and disability.
  2. Owing to the chronicity of the disease and the fact that current therapies neither prevent nor completely cure RA, medication adherence to prescribed medications plays a major role in achieving and maintaining remission, reducing symptoms, and improving patient’s QOL.
  3. The main culprit behind Rheumatoid arthritis is the imbalance of the gut microbiome. When there’s a difference in the gut ratio then gut is overtaken by some specific microbes (Eggerthella&Prevotellacopri)  which are known for increasing the risk of rheumatoid arthritis by releasing pro-inflammatory cytokines( IL-6 7& TNF-alpha).

  1. The proposed product is an innovative and pioneering product integrating Biotechnology and gold nanoparticles (Svarna Bhasma) with herbs. Currently, in Ayurveda, only multi-herbal formulations and Gold Bhasma are used in RA, which have shown better results as per the current Research data.
